Mr. Politiko
Well, under that heading I'll log all my dealings with political issues; currently this gosh-derned United Future Party. I've written to Critic about it, but I doubt it will be published. Quite sadly, I included a typo in my brief letter to the Members of Parliament that constitute this Party (re: comment in last post).
Let me just record that, and some of the response I received:
SENT:
"I am a young gay man from a Christian family; even if I no longer identify with the religion, I continue to uphold many Christian beliefs as morals.
I am a capable citizen, [and,] more importantly, I will become a capable husband and father - with another man.
I only wish to appeal to you by saying that I am concerned at the manner in which the opportunity to strengthen the family structure by allowing a new kind of family to be legally recognised is being white-washed as something of the opposite.
I do hope you will consider, briefly or at all, the idea that voting against this Bill would be the wrong action.
I wish you all the best no-matter your descision"
Fine on that, that was the standard message sent to all proceeding Politicians in the U.F. Party.
MP Paul Adams
"It is sad that your have chosen a relationship instead of your creator, but that is the reason we were given the responsibility of making our own decisions, as he will never force a relationship on us.
Marriage is a very special relationship and is not to be entered into lightly, it is also the place that Children are to be brought into the world from, cared for and brought up by a loving Father and Mother.
Let me assure you I will fight against this bill with all that I have as I am tired of families being pulled apart. It is time to start the process of rebuilding them and therefore I will be voting against this legislation."
RESPONSE:
"I was charmed to recieve your post, but I am not sure that I understand your failure to address my concern. I will gladly accept your first comment, regarding the 'creator' as I am quite happy to accept your dogma (as was said, I once held it).
However a few statements stand out as unsubstantiated (even nebulous):
"[...]it is also the place that Children are to be brought into the world
from, cared for and brought up by a loving Father and Mother."
There is a possibility for family units that are more diverse than this in which children can be raised at no expense to their well-being. If you disagree then I'm curious - why?
Are children of single parents, artificial insemination, adoption and such disadvantaged in your opinion? How is this so?
"Let me assure you I will fight against this bill with all that I have as I
am tired of families being pulled apart."
How will this bill pull families apart? I fail to see the connection between the Bill and this statement, and I'd be thankful if you could elaborate on just how the Bill will do what you assume."
MP Mr. Adams Response:
"Just do a little research yourself, there is more than ample evidence. The failure of alternative models speak for themselves. The best place for a child to be brought up is with it's parents, this obviously goes further out with adopted Parents etc, but children need a Male and Female role model."
Well, you can see the strength of his argument, can't you...?
Oh dear, who is this running my country?
